What's Work In A Castle all about?

Work In A Castle was created by the team at Historic Houses. We represent more than 1,400 independently owned historic houses across the UK and support a community of around 80,000 visitor members.

Our team brings together an incredible range of expertise, and we truly love what we do. We created this platform to help both aspiring and experienced heritage professionals maximise their potential, grow at every stage of their journey, and build rewarding careers — all while being supported by a warm, passionate community.

What we learned from our field trips

With more than fifty years of experience supporting independent heritage owners, we understand the unique challenges of finding the right people for roles in historic places. To learn from what works best, we set out to visit and speak to a diverse range of heritage professionals.

We asked them how they first got their foot in the heritage door and how they went on to find workplaces where they truly felt at home. Along the way, we gathered inspiring stories, practical insights, and honest reflections from across the sector.
